Voter guide information
Voters will decide a mix of statewide and local issues in the May 19 special election.
Six budget-related propositions were placed on the ballot by the Legislature and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. The measures would generate billions of dollars in revenue for the state by extending the life of some recent tax hikes, borrowing against the California Lottery, temporarily reducing some programs and imposing restraints on the growth of state government.
A handful of key local contests also will be decided. Los Angeles will get a new city attorney and council member, while in the city and some neighboring communities, voters will choose new representatives in the state Senate and Congress.
