Southern Section Division III preliminaries
Southern Section Division III preliminaries
Today at Costa Mesa Estancia High, noon
Why it matters: A week after logging the fastest time in the 100 meters in California in 17 years, sprinter Randall Carroll of Los Angeles Cathedral will try to break Henry Thomas’ 1985 state record of 10.25 seconds. The UCLA-bound Carroll ran the 100 in 10.30 at the Del Rey League finals and ran the 200 in 21.03, the best time in the state this year. Carroll’s biggest challenge should come from La Puente Bishop Amat’s Sheldon Price, who ran the 100 in 10.60 and the 200 in 21.29. Cathedral’s Kevin Ally ran the 100 in 10.65 last week. Field events begin at 11 a.m.
