Angels: The week ahead
TUESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY: VS. DODGERS
FRIDAY THROUGH SUNDAY: VS. COLORADO ROCKIES
Brian Fuentes, a three-time All-Star closer for the Colorado Rockies, faces his former team for the first time since signing with the Angels two winters ago. Fuentes has given up five home runs in 162/3 innings this season, and fans are clamoring for the Angels to remove him as closer. Meanwhile, the Rockies’ relievers have a 3.21 earned-run average through Friday, better than the 4.98 of the Angels’ relievers. Joe Beimel has an ERA of 0.81, with Manny Corpas at 2.37 and Matt Belisle and Randy Flores each at 3.07. All this success has come in the absence of closer Huston Street, who has not pitched this season because of shoulder and groin injuries. The Rockies are expected to activate Street this week.
