Michael Vick’s timeline on shooting disputed by nightclub spokesman

The spokesman for the nightclub where Michael Vick held his birthday bash says the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback left in a car minutes before a shooting outside, contradicting the timeline of Vick’s attorney.

Larry Woodward told the Associated Press on Tuesday that Vick left the establishment at least 10 minutes, and perhaps as many as 20 minutes, before the shooting.

Allen Fabijan, spokesman for Guadalajara Mexican restaurant and nightclub in Virginia Beach, Va., said Wednesday that time-stamped footage from a surveillance camera outside the entrance of the club shows a car with Vick inside leaving at 2:07 a.m. Friday -- about four minutes before the shooting a block away.

Fabijan said police have asked the club not to release the video to media but allowed the AP to view the grainy footage on Wednesday.

Vick’s face is not discernible; a man wearing white that Fabijan said is Vick appears moving toward a parked car at 2:04 a.m. A crowd quickly gathers, and Fabijan said Vick accommodated fans trying to get an autograph, to pose for a photo or to shake hands -- so much so that a club security guard tries to disperse the crowd.

The waiting car pulls away at 2:07 a.m. in the direction of the eventual shooting. Numerous people are seen lingering in front of the club for several minutes until, at 2:10:55, they suddenly appear to duck for cover.

Fabijan said Vick was not involved in any altercations during the hour he was inside, or immediately outside, the restaurant-nightclub.

Vick was interviewed by police on Monday. Police say Vick is not a suspect and have not released the identity of the man injured in the shooting. Woodward, however, told the AP that it was Quanis Phillips, a co-defendant in Vick’s dogfighting case.

Carolina center Rod Brind’- Amour, captain of the Hurricanes’ 2006 Stanley Cup championship team, retired after 21 seasons. He will remain in the organization in an unspecified role.

The Ducks acquired forward Jason Jaffray from the Calgary Flames in exchange for left wing Logan MacMillan.

Jaffray went scoreless in three games with the Flames last season after playing 33 games over the previous two seasons with the Vancouver Canucks. MacMillan was a first-round pick by the Ducks in 2007, but spent most of last season with Bakersfield of the ECHL.

The Ducks also re-signed minor league goalie Jean-Philippe Levasseur to a one-year contract extension and bought out the contract of defenseman Nathan Oystrick, who appeared in three games for the team.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired forward Kris Versteeg from the Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks in a five-player deal. Versteeg had 44 points in 79 regular-season games last season and added 14 points in the postseason.

Tiger Woods has been interviewed by federal authorities investigating a Canadian doctor accused of distributing human growth hormone, a person familiar with the investigation told the Associated Press. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the investigation of Dr. Anthony Galea is ongoing.

Woods previously acknowledged that he’s been treated by the Toronto-based doctor but insisted that he did not receive any performance-enhancing drugs.

“Tiger willingly spoke to the authorities and cooperated fully,” Woods’ agent, Mark Steinberg, said in an e-mail. “It was confirmed that because he did nothing illegal, he is not the subject of any criminal investigation.”

Pomona’s Shane Mosley will fight former world champion Sergio Mora in a 154-pound pay-per-view bout Sept. 18 at Staples Center.

Mosley’s promoter, Richard Schaefer, said the card will cap a four-day celebration of Mexican Independence ceremonies, including a concert, a public tribute to legendary Mexican fighters and a street fair near Staples.
