Stocks open lower as sluggish month continues
NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. stock indexes are opening slightly lower as the market’s sluggish September continues.
The Dow Jones industrial average eased 27 points, or 0.2%, to 17,021 as of 9:34 a.m. Eastern time Friday.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 index slipped three points, also 0.2%, to 1,994. The Nasdaq composite nudged five points lower, down 0.2%, to 4,586.
Bond prices are falling, pushing up the yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose to 2.60% from 2.55% late Thursday.
