PETA asks JPMorgan for O.J. Simpson’s house

Will JPMorgan Chase & Co. play its part in makingO.J. Simpson’s house into a “Meat Is Murder” museum?

That is the question the animal rights group PETA is asking in what must be the most bizarre letter received by the bank Thursday.

PETA wrote a letter directly to JPMorgan Chief Executive Jamie Dimon asking if the bank would donate Simpson’s former home in Florida to the group for use as a museum.

“Our museum will contain exhibits that give visitors a sense of the terror that animals used for food experience. The ‘Meat Is Murder’ Museum plan would include educational displays that highlight interesting facts about the animals who are so casually converted into sandwich fillings,” the letter says.

PETA says it got the idea after hearing that JPMorgan was foreclosing on the house because of Simpson’s nonpayment of his mortgage, which is presumably caused by his extended stay in prison.

CNN Money reports that JPMorgan has gone forward with foreclosure proceedings on the house that Simpson bought for $575,000 in 2000 and refinanced in 2003.

PETA spokeswoman Ashley Byrne says that her organization wants to take advantage of the curiosity about Simpson to spread its message.

“It’s likely that there will be a lot of people driving by and visiting this location out of morbid curiosity and this is a way that something positive can come out of this,” Byrne told The Times.

The letter says Simpson’s house is a fitting location for the museum because of the stake he owned in two chicken restaurants and eight ham stores.

Simpson is unlikely to be reclaiming the house any time soon. He was convicted in 2008 on charges of armed robbery and kidnapping.

JPMorgan has not responded to requests for comment.
