Hot Property: New agents, new direction for pop star Liam Payne

After finding no takers last year at $11.2 million, Liam Payne of One Direction fame has changed real estate agents and relisted his compound in the Santa Monica Mountains near Calabasas for $10.75 million.

The English singer-songwriter bought the nearly five-acre estate five years ago for $10 million and has extensively renovated the property during his ownership.

Tucked behind gates, the scenic spread includes a 9,659-square-foot main house, two guesthouses, a teahouse and a mosaic-tiled swimming pool. Limestone patios, a koi pond, organic gardens and a small vineyard fill out the grounds.

The Spanish-style main house, though built in 1991, is full of Old World details. Of note are five fireplaces with carved limestone mantels, hand-hewn walnut flooring, beamed ceilings and custom chandeliers. A dramatic wood-paneled library draws the eyes upward with two levels of built-ins. Rows of recliners fill the theater room.

The property was previously owned by the late Alan Purwin, the aerial film operator and entrepreneur who worked on more than 100 films, including the “Transformers” series, “Armageddon” (1998) and “Pearl Harbor” (2001).

Payne, 26, was involved in scores of hits as part of One Direction, including “What Makes You Beautiful,” “Live While We’re Young” and “Story of My Life.” The supergroup, which was formed after the musician and his band mates appeared separately on “The X Factor,” went on hiatus in 2016 and folded its touring company the following year.

Since then, Payne has struck out on his own, releasing an extended-play album in 2018 and his debut solo album, “LP1,” last year.

King seeks new castle

LeBron James already owns two homes in Los Angeles, but he may be looking to make another move.

The Lakers superstar has been quietly shopping for a new residence on the Westside of L.A., particularly in Bel-Air and Beverly Crest, according to real estate sources familiar with the area who weren’t authorized to speak about the matter. Scuttlebutt is that James wants to upgrade to a larger compound.

The four-time NBA MVP previously spent about $43 million combined on a pair of homes in Brentwood.

In 2015, while with the Cleveland Cavaliers, James paid about $21 million for a 9,440-square-foot traditional home designed by architect Ken Ungar. Two years later, he dropped another $23 million on a newly built mansion of nearly 15,550 square feet.

One down, another to go

Stockard Channing is on a selling streak in the Hollywood Hills. A year after selling a Midcentury home for $1.79 million, the “Grease” and “West Wing” actress just listed another charming property in the area for $2.495 million.

Perched above Laurel Canyon, the country-style house occupies a leafy, secluded lot. Gardens fill out the front of the property, while the backyard features a Saltillo tile patio with a swimming pool and spa overlooking the hills.

Details old and new mingle in the single-story floor plan, where whitewashed beams and original stained glass windows touch up common spaces with walls of glass and custom built-ins. Fireplaces anchor the living room and dining area, and the kitchen opens directly to the backyard.

The master suite also expands outside, to a private garden nook. It’s one of three bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms in 2,157 square feet.

Channing, 76, gained fame in the 1978 film “Grease” and won a Tony seven years later for the revival of “Joe Egg.” She won Emmys for her portrayal of the first lady in “The West Wing” and for the TV movie “The Matthew Shepard Story” and received an Academy Award nomination for the 1994 film “Six Degrees of Separation.”

Former pro finds the end zone

Former NFL running back turned college football analyst Reggie Bush has sold his Pacific Palisades home of about six years for $7.381 million.

Completely renovated during Bush’s stay, the striking contemporary home of about 7,500 square feet features glass, stone and polished wood details throughout; a skylight-topped kitchen; and a temperature-controlled wine cellar. Blackout curtains and a drop-down projection screen in the living room transform the space into a home theater at the push of a button.

The multiroom master suite with private wraparound terrace is among the home’s five bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms.

Outside, on roughly three-quarters of an acre of property, are an infinity-edge swimming pool, a fire pit and a built-in barbecue. Covered patio space and a deck and lounge area extend the outdoor footprint.

Bush, 35, originally put the home up for sale last year at $9.995 million.

The retired running back started out at Helix High School in La Mesa. As a member of the University of Southern California football program, he earned All-American honors twice, a Doak Walker Award and a Heisman Trophy (later forfeited). Drafted second overall for the NFL in 2006, Bush played for the Saints, Dolphins, Lions, 49ers and Bills across 11 professional seasons.

Last year, he was hired by Fox Sports as a college football studio analyst, joining former USC teammate Matt Leinart, among others.

Upgrading his production

Who says there’s no money in daytime television? “Family Feud” host Steve Harvey has bought a 35,000-square-foot mega-mansion in Atlanta for $15 million.

Harvey is the impressive estate’s third owner in five years. It was previously owned by filmmaker Tyler Perry, who sold it in 2016 to televangelist David Turner for a record $17.5 million. Turner shot for the stars two years later, listing the home for $25 million before trimming the price to $21 million and eventually selling it to Harvey at a $2.5-million loss.

Set on the banks of the Chattahoochee River, the estate spans 17 acres on the north side of the city and seems to take advantage of every single inch. Rolling lawns and formal gardens fill out the amenity-loaded property, which has a 70,000-gallon pool, a tennis court and multiple structures.

Two gates, a dramatic fountain and a stone walkway approach the seven-bedroom, 14-bathroom main residence. There’s a billiards room, a wine cellar, a movie theater, a fully equipped gym, spa facilities and a resistance pool built into a grotto-like space.

Harvey, 63, gained fame as a comedian in the 1980s and ’90s before moving to television, where he starred in “The Steve Harvey Show” and hosted “Family Feud.” He’s published four books as well, including 2009’s “Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man.”
