Apple cuts MacBook Air price by $100; rumors of thinner iPhone 6 abound
Apple rolled out slightly upgraded versions of its MacBook Air laptops Tuesday while cutting the price of each version by $100. At the same time, more rumors of its upcoming iPhone surfaced saying the device may be even thinner than the current model.
The Cupertino, Calif., tech giant said the new MacBook Air laptops feature improved processors that make the ultra-portable machines faster and more powerful than their predecessors. The upgraded models also come with longer-lasting batteries.
Apple said the new MacBook Air laptops start at $899 for the entry-level 11-inch version. The laptops are available for purchase at the company’s retail stores as well as online, with shipping available within 24 hours.
The MacBook Air price drop has also led Apple to cut the price of its refurbished versions of the computer. Customers can now buy a refurbished mid-2012 11-inch MacBook Air for as low as $599.
However, customers who are obsessed with tech specs may want to hold off on buying these new MacBook Air laptops. 9to5Mac, a tech news site, expects Apple to release versions of the MacBook Air that feature its ultra high-resolution Retina displays later this year, and 9to5Mac is typically accurate when it comes to reporting about yet-to-be-announced Apple products.
Meanwhile, in iPhone news, a video was uploaded to YouTube that claims to feature one of the first cases made for the iPhone 6. If the case really is for Apple’s next iPhone, then customers should expect the iPhone 6 to be even thinner than the iPhone 5s.
According to the video, the next iPhone will have the same thickness as the current iPod Touch devices. That means the thickness of the iPhone will drop from 0.30 inches to 0.24 inches.
Besides a thinner body, the iPhone 6 is also expected to feature a larger screen size than the iPhone 5s, which comes with a 4-inch display. Various reports have said the iPhone 6 could come in two versions: one with a 4.7-inch screen and another with a 5.5-inch screen.
The iPhone 6 is not expected to be announced until sometime this fall.
