One dead in police shooting in Sherman Oaks
A man was shot and killed by Los Angeles police in the Sherman Oaks area Wednesday morning, authorities said.
The shooting occurred about 10:25 a.m. near Kester Avenue and Burbank Boulevard. Authorities say Los Angeles Police Department officers had been surveilling the area since 6 a.m., though it is not clear why. Asked whether the surveillance action was connected to a liquor store robbery that occurred Tuesday night, LAPD said it could not confirm that information.
At a three-minute news conference hours after the shooting, the LAPD said that the police officers involved in the shooting were plainclothes officers. Their names have not yet been released.
Plainclothes officers do not typically wear body-camera devices, the LAPD said.
The man, who was not immediately identified, died at the scene.
