Eight injured in Carson shooting; authorities searching for gunman

Eight people were shot early Saturday in Carson, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies responded to a call about a shooting in the 1500 block of Abila Street about 12:05 a.m., authorities said. At the scene, deputies found five gunshot victims and started working to save them, authorities said Saturday evening. Their injuries included wounds in the head, back, and upper and lower body.

Two additional gunshot victims had already been taken by civilian drivers to hospitals, authorities said.

Minutes later, deputies received a call about a vehicle that had crashed into a brick retaining wall roughly a quarter of a mile away, on the 21800 block of Martin Street, according to the Sheriff’s Department. Deputies said they found a 16-year-old boy there with a gunshot wound in his upper body, along with two other passengers who were not hit by gunfire.

All of the victims ranged in age from 16 to 24, according to the department.

As of Saturday afternoon, the Sheriff’s Department said that two of the victims were in critical condition, and the other six were described as stable. .

Neighbors told the sheriff’s station that at least 50 people were attending a house party on Abila Street at the time of the shooting.

No arrests related to the incident had been announced as of Saturday afternoon. The department said its investigation was continuing.
