Volkswagen BlueSport concept
Volkswagen has found a niche in the race for fuel-friendliness -- a turbocharged roadster diesel (TDI) with fuel economy ratings of 35 mpg city and 50 on the highway. It also boasts a low CO2-output level of 113 grams per kilometer.
Roadster lovers will appreciate the rear-wheel-drive and six-speed dual-clutch gearbox, and whats not to love if it delivers 177 horsepower and gets going to 60 mph in 6.2 seconds. The BlueSport, if it is actually produced by VW, seems to have plenty going for it in a world of more bland fuel-efficient choices. (Mark Boster / Los Angeles Times)
