Oscars 2013: Watch the Academy Award nominations live Thursday
The nominations for the 2013 Academy Awards will be announced Thursday morning at precisely 5:38 a.m. and 30 seconds (yes, it’s that precise). You can watch Seth MacFarlane and Emma Stone announce the Oscar nominations live above.
The event at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills will contain a bit of Oscar trivia in its own right, in that MacFarlane will become only the second telecast host to also announce the nominations. The first, Charlton Heston, did so in 1972.
Unlike past years when front-runners were synonymous with obscurity, strong box-office performers such as “Argo,” “Lincoln,” “Les Misérables” and “Life of Pi” are poised for best picture nominations at the 85th Academy Awards.
Another favorite, “Zero Dark Thirty,” is in limited release but off to a strong start. “Skyfall” — the highest-grossing title in James Bond history — could reap several nominations, even though it is considered a long shot for a best picture nod.
At least five films will be nominated for best picture, up to a maximum of 10.
Top directing nominees include Steven Spielberg for “Lincoln,” Kathryn Bigelow for “Zero Dark Thirty,” Ang Lee for “Life of Pi,” Tom Hooper for “Les Miserables” and newcomer Ben Affleck for “Argo” -- all of whom were nominated for Directors Guild of America awards. But don’t discount the possibility of nominations for David O. Russell for “Silver Linings Playbook,” Quentin Tarantino for “Django Unchained” or Paul Thomas Anderson for “The Master.”

In the race for best actor, Daniel Day-Lewis in “Lincoln,” Denzel Washington in “Flight,” Hugh Jackman in “Les Miserables,” John Hawkes in “The Sessions” and Bradley Cooper, “Silver Linings Playbook” are considered among the leading contenders.
Nominees for a lead actress nomination include Jennifer Lawrence in “Silver Linings Playbook,” Jessica Chastain in “Zero Dark Thirty,” Emmanuelle Riva in “Amour,” Marion Cotillard in “Rust and Bone,” Naomi Watts in “The Impossible” and Quvenzhane Wallis, who was only 6 years old when “Beasts of the Southern Wild” was filmed.
The Academy Awards will be held at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland on Feb. 24 and telecast live on ABC.
