‘Beasts of the Southern Wild,’ ‘Flight’ among NAACP Image nominees
“Beasts of the Southern Wild,” “Django Unchained,” “Flight,” “Red Tails” and “Tyler Perry’s Good Deeds” Tuesday morning received nominations as outstanding motion picture for the NAACP Image Awards.
The 44th awards, which celebrate the accomplishments of people of color, also announced nominees in TV, music and literature categories.
Vying for outstanding actor in a motion picture are Denzel Washington for “Flight,” Jamie Foxx for “Django Unchained,” Morgan Freeman of “The Magic of Belle Isle,” Suraj Sharma for “Life of Pi” and Tyler Perry for “Alex Cross.”
Outstanding actress nominees are Emayatzy Corinealdi for “Middle of Nowhere,” Halle Berry for “Cloud Atlas,” Loretta Devine for “In the Hive,” Quvenzhane Wallis for “Beasts of the Southern Wild” and Viola Davis for “Won’t Back Down.”
Competing for supporting actor are David Oyelowo for “Middle of Nowhere,” Don Cheadle for “Flight,” Dwight Henry for “Beasts of the Southern Wild,” Lenny Kravitz for “The Hunger Games” and Samuel L. Jackson for “Django Unchained.”
Nominations for supporting actress went to Amandla Stenberg for “The Hunger Games,” Gloria Reuben for “Lincoln,” Kerry Washington for “Django Unchained,” Phylicia Rashad for “Tyler Perry’s Good Deads” and Taraji P. Henson for “Think Like a Man.”
On the television side, “Glee,” “Modern Family,” “The Game,” “The Mindy Project” and “The Soul Man” were nominated for outstanding comedy series. “Boardwalk Empire,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Scandal,” “Treme” and “True Blood” earned dramatic series nominations.
Competing for outstanding actor in a comedy series are Anthony Anderson for “Guys With Kids,” Damon Wayons Jr. for “Happy Endings,” Cheadle for “House of Lies,” Donald Faison for “The Exes” and Hosea Chanchez for “The Game.”
Nominated for outstanding actress in a comedy series are Amber Riley for “Glee,” Cassi Davis for “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne,” Kellita Smith for “The First Family,” Tatyana Ali for “Love That Girl” and Wendy Raquel Robinson for “The Game.”
Outstanding actor in a drama series nominations went to Dule Hill for “Psych,” Hill Harper for “CSI: NY,” LL Cool J for “NCIS: Los Angeles,” Michael Clarke Duncan for “The Finder” and Wendell Pierce for “Treme.”
Nominees for outstanding actress in a drama series are Chandra Wilson for “Grey’s Anatomy,” Kerry Washington for “Scandal,” Khandi Alexander for “Treme,” Regina King for “Southland” and Sandra Oh for “Grey’s Anatomy.”
The NAACP Image Awards are scheduled to air Feb. 1 on NBC.
