After weeks of negotiation, Abdul announced she was leaving her TV home of the last eight years. Abdul reportedly wanted a significant salary bump, to make money similar to that of her fellow judge Simon Cowell and host Ryan Seacrest, who both just negotiated huge new contracts. Abdul ultimately turned down Fox’s offer (reportedly north of $5 million a year for three years). Far be it from us to question your motives, Paula, but how else are you going to make that kind of money this year? In other “Idol” news, former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham will guest judge an episode this season. Bet you shes not bucking for more money now. (Chris Pizzello / Associated Press)
That’s right, the biggest reality “stars” of the summer returned to the small screen Monday. The back-to-back episodes aired after a month hiatus during which the Gosselins split up and John “tooled” it up in front of paparazzi. The return episodes’ total viewership was down 61% from the May 25 premiere. And after Monday’s snore-fest (Kate takes the kids to the beach, Jon supervises a kitchen renovation) expect those numbers to drop even more. The show will probably soon get attention-hungry and desperate. Hey, maybe Jon will start dating it? (Michael Pilla/Getty Images)
