DVD set honors Ronald Reagan at 100

Ronald Reagan would have turned 100 on Sunday. There are countless centenary events taking place and a new book out by his son Ron Reagan that mostly delve into his political career as governor of California and as the 40th president of the United States. But before Reagan turned to the political arena, he was a popular, dependable movie star, first at Warner Bros. and then for other studios.

Warner Home Video is paying homage to the late leader with an eight-film DVD set, “Ronald Reagan Centennial Collection.” It includes some of his best-known films, including his scene-stealing turn as the Gipper in 1940’s “Knute Rockne All American”; his best dramatic performance as the ill-fated Duke in the 1942 classic “Kings Row”; Reagan as a wisecracking World War II flyboy opposite Errol Flynn in 1942’s “Desperate Journey”; and as the laidback hospitalized American soldier in the touching 1949 drama, “The Hasty Heart.”
