Demi Lovato gets another tattoo, says, ‘Now I’m a warrior’
Demi Lovato says she’s a warrior, and she got herself a tattoo to prove it.
The 20-year-old “Heart Attack” singer posted a pic Wednesday of her new ink, which emblazons the lyric “Now I’m a warrior” on her back left shoulder, referring to a song on her newly released fourth album, “Demi.”
“Thanks @BangBang! Album release day!!! #DEMI,” she wrote, posting the pic on Twitter and linking off to her iTunes page. The tat came from Bang Bang Tattoos in New York City.
The former “Sonny With a Chance” star also got tats on her wrists to honor her fans’ support during her stint in an Illinois rehab facility in 2010. She has a Latin cross tattooed below her thumb and a flock of birds drawn on her forearm. The new ink brings her tattoo total to 12, according to MTV.

The “X Factor” judge appeared on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” Wednesday to explain the message behind her new ink and also revealed that she drove around the city telling New Yorkers to buy her latest album.
“I have a song on my album called ‘Warrior,’ and it’s a very, very meaningful song to me,” she told Fallon. “It’s really heavy, the lyrics, but it’s an inspirational song as well. It’s a negative thing turned positive. And I’ve been through a lot and I’m really really honest on this album. This was a song that as very difficult for me to write, record and now release. It was kind of like a tribute to releasing an album, as well as overcoming some really, really difficult things in my life.”
In the song, which is the last track on her album and might ordinarily seem like just another break-up/survivor dirge, the chorus goes, “Now I’m a warrior / Now I’ve got thicker skin / I’m a warrior / I’m stronger than I’ve ever been / And my armor, is made of steel, you can’t get in / I’m a warrior / And you can never hurt me again.”
But she also writes: “Out of the ashes / I’m burning like a fire / You can save your apologies, you’re nothing but a liar / I’ve got shame, I’ve got scars / That I’ll never show / I’m a survivor / In more ways than you know.”
Lovato has previously opened up about the “dark period” that included depression, eating disorders and cutting, which ultimately landed her in rehab.
But the singer poked fun at herself on the show, clearly showing that she’s moved past her trying times, when Fallon suggested that they play a game. “Modern Family’s” Julie Bowen, Fallon’s other guest of the evening, suggested beer pong but was concerned that Lovato might be underage.
“That doesn’t matter,” Lovato said, laughing, “because I’ve already been to rehab!”
Touché, Demi. Touché.
