“Mad Max: Fury Road” topped “The Revenant” for the sound mixing Oscar. Director George Miller’s apocalyptic roller coaster of face paint and death had collected a few sound prizes here and there over the awards season, while “Revenant” had captured many, including wins from the Cinema Audio Society and BAFTAs.
The ultimate honor for mixing audioscapes of wide-open expanses with in-your-face, high-octane blood sport joined the parade of laurels earned by “Mad Max,” which also took the Oscar for sound editing on Sunday night.
Winners Chris Jenkins and Gregg Rudloff are both veterans; Jenkins had been nominated four other times with two other wins and Rudloff, six other times with two other wins. It is Osmo’s first nomination.
