Hollywood Brazilian Film Festival opens next week at the Egyptian

The Hollywood Brazilian Film Festival, which focuses on new Brazilian independent fiction films, documentaries and shorts, opens July 31 at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood with the international premiere of guest-of-honor Anna Muylaert’s family drama “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” and Rafael Aidar’s short film “The Package.” The festival closes Aug. 4 with Muylaert’s debut film, “Durval Records.”

Muylaert is also one of the jurors for the narrative films competition.

Highlights of the festival, which will feature more than 30 L.A. premieres, include Allan Ribeiro’s “This Love That Consumes,” Joel Pizzini’s “Mr. Sganzerla,” Felippe Schultz Mussel’s “A Place to Take Away” and Marcos Pimental’s “Breath.”

“In our fifth year of the festival, we are thrilled to be presenting our very first world premiere in addition to some notable premieres,” the festival’s founder and executive director, Talize Sayegh, said in a statement.

“We are also honored to be paying tribute to one of Brazil’s most prominent filmmakers, Anna Muylaert.”

The festival will also offer industry panels, including a director’s roundtable and a focus on diversity.

All screenings save for the opening and closing night are free of charge.
