The cast of “The Princess Bride” reunited Tuesday night at the 25th anniversary screening of the 1987 adventure comedy during the 50th New York Film Festival at Alice Tully Hall in New York City.
Leading man Cary Elwes and leading lady Robin Wright played Westley and Buttercup in the film. Westley, a farmhand, confesses his love for Buttercup and seeks a fortune to marry her. But Buttercup is led to believe he died during his journey and is then betrothed to someone else. Action and adventure ensue! In the film, their story is told by a grandfather (Peter Falk) to his grandson (Fred Savage). This contemporary story arc narrated the film and cleverly interrupted the storyline throughout.
