One Direction adds fourth Staples Center date
One Direction, one venue and now four nights. The British boy band cobbled together for the overseas edition of “The X-Factor” has added another night to its Staples Center run in late summer of next year.
Tickets for the Aug. 10, 2013, date will go on sale Nov. 24 at 10 a.m. and will range in price from $29.50 to $89.50, not including service charges. The band’s newest, “Take Me Home,” will debut at No. 1 on the Billboard pop charts next week, with the keeper of the tally estimating that sales will top 500,000 copies.
There will likely be VIP options available, and if the first three Staples Center shows are an indication, expect VIP options to bring the ticket price up to between $250 and $350 per seat.
The band’s Staples Center run begins on Aug. 7, 2013, which puts the shows right around the time One Direction is expected to release its 3-D concert film directed by “Super Size Me’s” Morgan Spurlock.
The world of teen pop moves fast, and the concerts will force fans -- or the parents of fans -- to ask the following question: Will the band still be popular a year from now? One Direction is already making an effort to make the most of its moment. “Take Me Home,” for instance, is the act’s second album to be released in a 12-month span.
The band’s debut, “Up All Night,” was released in November 2011. To date, the Columbia Records album has sold 1.3 million copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.
