Listen to two new songs by Franz Ferdinand

One pleasant surprise Pop & Hiss experienced at Coachella this year was the return of Franz Ferdinand, which played a taut, energetic Saturday-night set that made us realize how much we’d missed the Scottish dance-rock dukes.

The band hasn’t put out a studio disc since 2009’s synthed-up “Tonight,” but that’s set to change on Aug. 27 with the release of “Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Actions.” And on Thursday, it stoked anticipation for the record by posting two tracks on YouTube.

“Right Action,” the set’s lead single, is a typically propulsive disco jam produced by Joe Goddard and Alexis Taylor of Hot Chip; “Love Illumination” goes in a boogie-rock direction that suggests these guys might’ve been listening to Queens of the Stone Age while they were away.
