Trent Reznor reveals lineup for Nine Inch Nails’ Tension 2013 tour
Is Trent Reznor a secret soul-music man?
After spending the summer earning concert reviews filled with words like “brutal” and “wrathful,” the Nine Inch Nails frontman revealed the lineup for the band’s upcoming Tension 2013 tour, and it features some perhaps-unexpected R&B veterans.
According to a tweet from its official account, the influential industrial-rock group will perform as an eight-piece, including bassist Pino Palladino (who’s played with D’Angelo and Jose James) and backup singers Sharlotte Gibson and Lisa Fischer, the latter of whom tours regularly with the Rolling Stones.
TIMELINE: Summer’s must see concerts
The new players join a roster that’s shifted considerably since Reznor first reconvened Nine Inch Nails early this year following a lengthy hiatus.
Former Jane’s Addiction bassist Eric Avery took part in early rehearsals but quit before the band began playing shows. Then Adrian Belew of King Crimson did the same thing. (Belew appears on the group’s comeback album, “Hesitation Marks,” as does Palladino.)
The rest of the lineup for Tension 2013 -- which kicks off Saturday in St. Paul, Minn., and hits L.A.’s Staples Center on Nov. 8 -- is made up of NIN regulars Alessandro Cortini, Ilan Rubin, Robin Finck and Joshua Eustis.
