Did Matt Lauer go too far with Anne Hathaway upskirt quip?
Hey, Matt Lauer, your slip is showing!
The media are bashing back at the “Today” cohost after he made a joke about Anne Hathaway’s recent wardrobe malfunction. When the actor showed up at NBC’s morning show Wednesday to promote her new film “Les Miserables,” Lauer alluded to an incident Monday when Hathaway climbed out of a limo at the New York premiere wearing a revealing Tom Ford dress -- and no underwear. The upskirt shot quickly made its way around the Web.
So Lauer unleashed this witticism on his guest: “Seen a lot of you lately!”

Hathaway apologized and then steered the conversation to safer waters, clucking: “I’m sorry that we live in a culture that commodifies sexuality of unwilling participants.” (Unwilling? Commodified sexuality? She is an actor promoting a movie!)
But the real reaction came later as reporters digested this latest sin from Lauer, who has become TV’s black beast ever since he was blamed for engineering the harsh exit of cohost Ann Curry from “Today” earlier this year.
“Well this was not one of Matt Lauer’s finer moments,” sniffed the Huffington Post, which seemed to regard the host as a newly discovered pre-human life form.
No less an arbiter of decorum than the New York Post decreed that Lauer had uttered a “tasteless quip.”
So, what do you think? Did Matt go too far? Or are the media picking on him because they think he’s an all-around bad guy?
