A man suspected of trying to run down a Chula Vista police officer after a shooting in April was arrested Saturday night in Imperial Beach, authorities said.

James Martinez, 20, was taken into custody about 10 p.m. at a Florence Avenue apartment, Chula Vista police Lt. Lon Turner said.

Police allege that Martinez and Sean O’Neil, 21, critically wounded a man in a shooting at Wild Wooly’s Saloon on Davidson Avenue about 1 a.m. on April 23. Officers pursued the fleeing pair, who drove into a cul-de-sac at Madrona Street.

Turner said Martinez tried to run down an officer, who fired several rounds at the car. Martinez’ car reportedly rammed the officer’s cruiser and the officer’s foot was fractured.

O’Neil was arrested May 3 at his father’s apartment on Telegraph Canyon Road, police said. O’Neil remains in jail with no bail on two counts of attempted murder and other charges.

Turner said Martinez will face a charge of the attempted murder of an officer.
