Fourth annual designer pop-up to aid Dress for Success
Who thinks shopping is a selfish enterprise?
At the Fourth Annual Shop for Success pop-up this week, customers can shop more than 125 designer brands at up to 70% off retail, with 100% of the proceeds going to benefit career development and employment programs operated by Dress for Success Worldwide-West.
The pop-up, at 1000 Westwood Blvd. in Westwood Village, will encompass women’s, men’s, plus sizes, accessories, shoes, vintage items and eco-friendly items. It kicks off with a VIP party from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, including an open bar, appetizers, live music, styling assistance and more. Celebrity ambassadors for the endeavor who are expected to attend include Kate Walsh, Jaime Presley, Katheryn Winnick, Amy Paffrath and Josefa Salinas. Tickets start at $50 and are available on eventbrite. Party-goers must be age 21 or older.
The pop-up is also open for shopping from noon to 8 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Events
Flix at Fig, the movie series at downtown’s Figat7th, is offering a double feature Wednesday: “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving” and “Goonies.” A live DJ and the $7 Figat7th happy hour begin at 5 p.m., with the films starting at 5:30 p.m. The showing will be in the Taste courtyard at the complex at 735 S. Figueroa St. The first 150 guests will receive free kettle corn. Restaurants at the venue will be open till 9 p.m. Bring a blanket to sit on.
Neiman Marcus Fashion Island is clearing out its Mariposa restaurant for one night only on Thursday, when it will display artwork from the collection of Orange County artist and collector Marina Romanova-Arnott, founder of Marina4art.com. The exhibit will include 24 original pieces by Romanova-Arnott and 12 pieces by other artists, including Takashi Murakami, Marilyn Minter and Marc Quinn. All will be available for purchase. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Fashion Island is at 401 Newport Center Drive, Newport Beach.
Online boutique Serene Sky and beauty retailer SleekHair are partnering on a fashion and beauty event called Beauty Inspo from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at SleekHair’s store at 14251 Chambers Road, Tustin.
Sample sales
Rebecca Minkoff is having a sample sale this week that continues through Sunday at the boutique at 4661 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles. Hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. Ready-to-wear, handbags, shoes and accessories are up to 75% off. No personal bags allowed.
Eberjey plans a sample sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the Room showroom in the Cooper building at 860 S. Los Angeles St., Lobby Suite 100-A, Los Angeles.
Strom has scheduled a sample sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday in Suite 402 at the Cooper building in the Em Productions showroom.
Jenni Kayne is to host a sample sale from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday on the mezzanine level of the Cooper building.
AG is having a sample sale featuring men’s and women’s apparel from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday on mezzanine 2 at the Cooper building. All sizes available.
Openings
Goorin Bros. is set to open its fourth L.A. area hat shop on Thursday in Studio City. The store at 12192 Ventura Blvd. will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Pop-ups
Fresh beauty plans to park a mobile pop-up truck at the Grove from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday. Inside the truck, dubbed the Fresh Blue Box for the gift packaging it resembles, guests can experiment with lip products and record and share stories of their first kisses. The Grove is at 189 The Grove Drive, Los Angeles. The truck also is scheduled to visit the new Fresh store in Pasadena, 40 W. Colorado Blvd., from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 10 and 11.
The W Los Angeles and M Dot Design Studio plan to present a pop-up shop on Friday at the 2nd floor garden terrace at the W Hotel, 6250 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood. The event, scheduled from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and hosted by Newmark Models, will feature shopping, DJ Junkyard Dog and sweets by Angel Cake Pops. M Dot, Dot Dot, Elodie K, Bliss Spa and July Sol are among the participating vendors.
Trunk shows
Jet Set Candy, a line of jewelry inspired by travel, is hosting a trunk show from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Bloomingdale’s at Santa Monica Place. It will be in the fashion accessories department on the first floor. The mall is at 315 Colorado Ave.
