Kobe Bryant ends his career with a 60-point game -- and a 70-gram gold ring

On Wednesday night, Kobe Bryant finished off his 20-year career with the Los Angeles Lakers in impressive fashion — notching 60 points in the team’s win over the Utah Jazz. To match it, the NBA franchise he called home gave him an equally impressive parting gift: a skull-cracking commemorative gold ring festooned with nearly 5 carats of diamonds.

Lakers co-owner Jeanie Buss actually handed out two rings in an informal ceremony (a portion of which was televised after last night’s game) — one to the five-time world champion and a second to his wife, Vanessa. Both were created by Jason of Beverly Hills, a longtime bling-maker to the stars.

According to the specs provided by the jeweler, Kobe’s ring includes 4.87 total carats of genuine, round white diamonds set in a 14-karat yellow and white gold ring that clocks in at approximately 70 grams, and the face of the ring includes five round diamonds circled in gold — symbolizing the five NBA championships the franchise earned in the Kobe era.

Additional details include the words “Twenty Years” on one side of the ring, below which is an image of Bryant’s number 8 jersey, framed by the years 1996 and 2005, the years he wore that number. The other side is emblazoned with his “Black Mamba” nickname above a depiction of his number 24 jersey, which, in turn, is flanked by the years 2006 to 2016, symbolizing the years he sported those digits. The interior of the ring was designed to accommodate a piece of snakeskin, another nod to Bryant’s Black Mamba moniker.

“Growing up watching Kobe play, it was an honor to design and create a ring that helped celebrate his amazing career,” Jason Arasheben, CEO of Jason of Beverly Hills said in the news release describing the ring. “It is definitely a design that embraces elements of each of his 5 championship rings.”

Bryant’s certainly no stranger to Arasheben’s wares: Jason of Beverly Hills designed the Lakers 2009 and 2010 championship rings. And just in case you were wondering (because we certainly were), that’s not where Bryant picked up that other famous ring — the headline-making 8-carat purple diamond “apology ring” reportedly worth $4 million Bryant gifted his wife with in 2003.
