Marie France Van Damme unveils her ‘70s-inspired capsule collection in time for those Oscar parties

Just because you haven’t scored a ticket to the Oscars ceremony doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate in style. Whether you’re hosting a viewing party for friends or attending one of the many shindigs around town, here are some ideas to get you in the mood for Hollywood’s biggest night.

Launching in time for the Academy Awards on Sunday is the 16-piece MFVD Glamour capsule collection from Hong Kong-based designer Marie France Van Damme. Inspired by the 1970s, the line is predominantly in shades of black and gold and fashioned from luxe fabrics such as lame, lace and silk chiffon. The pieces, which range in price from $630 to $2,500, are in flowing, sophisticated silhouettes. Think strappy negligee-styled dresses and floaty caftans. The offering is initially at Van Damme’s Beverly Hills boutique before being made available online and at her other boutiques around the world.

TahariASL

A modern take on eveningwear from TahariASL is this black georgette jumpsuit with an overlay.

This $148 jumpsuit from TahariASL offers a youthful and modern take on evening dressing. Made from georgette, the flowing pants are overlaid with a sheer skirt, which ties at the waist. The simple V-neck allows for all sorts of accessorizing — perhaps with a choker or chandelier earrings — to make for an extra glammed-up look. The brand also makes a shimmering silver jumpsuit with a thicker waist sash.

Marzook

Here’s an evening bag reminiscent of a disco ball. Kuwaiti brand Marzook studded a spherical evening clutch with Swarovski crystals.

Here’s a striking alternative to the basic black clutch. Kuwait-based brand Marzook is known for its translucent spherical bags, and for spring 2018, there’s a fully embellished one with Swarovski crystals called, fittingly, Crystal Ball ($2,495). The brand was co-founded by Fahad Al Marzouq and his sister, Shouq. The bags, with their high glam and often Art Deco-inspired looks, have been carried by Amal Clooney and Cara Delevingne.

The Crystal Ball bag is available at Barneys New York, 9570 Wilshire Blvd., Beverly Hills.

Barakat Gallery

Ancient coins dating back centuries anchor jewelry pieces from Barakat Gallery.

How do you guarantee that nobody else at the party will be wearing the same hoop earrings, tennis bracelet and solitaire pendant as you? Opt for a bit of wearable history instead. From the jewelry section of antiquities purveyor Barakat Gallery in Beverly Grove are ancient coins — some said to date back to 323 B.C. — mounted in sparkling modern settings. These include a necklace ($14,800) with a bronze sestertius featuring the profile of Roman Emperor Severus Alexander surrounded by 57 diamonds.
