Demitasse to launch downtown roasting works
Downtown Los Angeles is gaining another coffee roaster. Coffee shop Demitasse, the cafe owned and operated by Bobak Roshan, is preparing to launch its own roasting works, Demitasse Roasting, next month.
Roshan says Demitasse’s roasting facility will be up and running by mid-October in collaboration with roastmaster Greg Thomas, who roasts his own coffee under the label Trystero. (L.A.-based Handsome Coffee, which opened this year, also roasts downtown.)
Demitasse plans to roast on a Diedrich IR-2.5 in a temporary warehouse downtown while Roshan and Thomas look for a permanent space. Roshan says the space will most likely include a retail shop.
Demitasse Roasting’s first three coffees (a Colombian, Ethiopian and Sumatran) and an espresso blend will be on the menu at the shop the weekend of Oct. 13.
