Buffalo Trace Distillery recalls sauces over allergen mislabling
The gift shop at the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Ky., has voluntarily recalled five condiment sauces due to mislabeling and undeclared allergens, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to wheat, soy, anchovy or milk risk serious or even life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products. No adverse reactions or illnesses have been reported.
The receall applies to the following products sold under the Buffalo Trace Distillery brand name:
--Bourbon Flavored Caramel Sauce, 8-ounce jar, UPC 795436001058, best buy date 2/16/14. Product contains milk and soy.
--Bourbon Flavored Fudge Sauce, 8-ounce jar, UPC 795436001034, best buy date 1/30/14. Product contains milk and soy.
--Marinade for Meat, 12-ounce bottle, UPC 795436001072, best buy date 10/30/14. Product contains wheat, soy and anchovy.
--c Sauce, 16-ounce jar, UPC 795436001065, best buy date 1/19/15. Product contains soy and anchovy.
--Hot Barbecue Sauce, 16-ounce jar, UPC 795436000174, best buy date 11/7/14. Product contains soy and anchovy.
The recalled items were sold online and distributed to retail grocery stores, specialty stores and liquor stores in 27 states across the country, including California, as well as in Canada and Britain, between January 2012 and January 2013, the FDA said.
Future products will be labeled to reflect all ingredients, the company said.
Customers may return affected products to the stores they purchased them for a full refund, or call the Buffalo Trace gift shop at (800) 654-8471 from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays and from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays, Pacific Daylight Time.
