Magnitude 3 quake strikes near Hawthorne, Nev.
A shallow magnitude 3 earthquake was reported Tuesday evening 12 miles from Hawthorne, Nev., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 9:24 p.m. Pacific time at a depth of 5 miles.
According to the USGS, the epicenter was 62 miles from Gardnerville Ranchos, Nev., 70 miles from Carson City, Nev., 70 miles from Fernley, Nev., and 76 miles from South Lake Tahoe, Calif.
In the past 10 days, there has been one earthquake of at least magnitude 3 centered nearby.
