Earthquake: 3.1 quake strikes near Borrego Springs, Calif.
A shallow magnitude 3.1 earthquake was reported Friday afternoon 13 miles from Borrego Springs, Calif., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 4:42 p.m. Pacific time at a depth of 5.6 miles.
According to the USGS, the epicenter was 15 miles from La Quinta, Calif., 17 miles from Palm Desert, Calif. and 19 miles from Rancho Mirage.
In the last 10 days, there have been eight earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby.
