Earthquake: 2.8 quake strikes near Willow Creek, Calif.
A shallow magnitude 3.3 earthquake, later downgraded to 2.8, was reported Tuesday morning three miles from Willow Creek, Calif., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 6:24 a.m. Pacific time at a depth of 16.8 miles.
According to the USGS, the epicenter was 27 miles from Bayside, 27 miles from Arcata and 27 miles from McKinleyville.
In the last 10 days, there have been no earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby.
