Earthquake: 3.5 quake strikes off North Coast

A shallow magnitude 3.5 earthquake was reported Saturday evening seven miles from Petrolia, Calif., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 9:28 p.m. Pacific time at a depth of 12.4 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was 25 miles from Fortuna, 38 miles from Eureka and 42 miles from Bayside.

In the past 10 days, there has been one earthquake of magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby.
