Man found fatally shot in Compton parking lot on Christmas Day
A man was found dead in a Compton parking lot on Christmas Day, his body riddled with bullets, authorities said.
Deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department heard gunfire in the area near the 700 block of West Laurel Street just before 9 p.m. on Wednesday and drove in that direction.
“When they reached the location, they found the victim, lying in the parking lot suffering from gunshot wounds,” according to a release from the sheriff’s department.
HOMICIDE REPORT: Track killings in L.A. County
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. A spokesman for the county coroner’s office was unable to give the man’s identify.
There has been at least one other homicide in the 700 block of West Laurel Street this year. In April, 31-year-old Ruben Gilliam died after he was shot nearby, according to the Homicide Report.
In areas patrolled by the Los Angeles Police Department or county sheriff’s department, Compton ranks in the top 20 of 209 neighborhoods with the highest amount of violent crime per 10,000 people, according to the Homicide Report.
