Two people, including a 7-year-old boy, were killed in a crash early Monday on the 91 Freeway in Anaheim, authorities said.
Angel Granados, 7, of Anaheim was a passenger in the back seat of the car when it crashed about 12:40 a.m. while traveling eastbound on 91 west of Harbor Boulevard, the California Highway Patrol said.
Another passenger, identified by coroner’s officials as 25-year-old Mario Lopez Alaniz of Anaheim, also died. The driver, whose name has not been released, survived the crash with minor to moderate injuries.
According to the CHP, Alaniz interfered with the driver’s steering, and the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the roadway and onto a dirt embankment, where it slammed into a tree.
Alaniz was pronounced dead at the scene. Angel was pronounced dead after he was taken to a hospital, according to coroner’s records.
