First Santa Ana wind event of the season to hit region Friday
The first Santa Ana wind event of the season is expected to bring strong winds to parts of the Southland on Friday morning as gusts of 45 to 50 mph are expected in the Santa Monica, Los Angeles and Ventura mountains.
“Gusty Santa Ana winds will develop this morning and continue through noon today. The strongest gusts will occur between 7 and 11 a.m.,” according to the National Weather Service.
Winds between 35 and 40 mph are expected in the Santa Clarita and Ventura County valleys, according to the weather service.
Curt Kaplan, a meteorologist with the weather service, said Friday’s wind event will likely be “short-lived” and of “fairly weak to a locally moderate strength.”
He said temperatures Friday were expected to reach highs of 89 degrees in Woodland Hills, 86 in Van Nuys, 81 at Los Angeles International Airport and 84 in downtown L.A.
Kaplan said it will be “generally cooler in the Antelope Valley” with highs expected in the mid-70s.
