Fatal crash on 91 Freeway in Lakewood snarls morning commute
Traffic on the 91 Freeway in Lakewood was bottlenecked Thursday morning after a fatal crash left half of the eastbound lanes blocked.
A California Highway Patrol official said authorities hope to have all lanes reopened at Lakewood Boulevard by 6:45 a.m. Officers opened two lanes at about 6 a.m. after diverting all traffic off the busy freeway for about two hours.
Few details of the crash were immediately available, but authorities said the first 911 calls came in just before 4 a.m.
Witnesses reported up to three vehicles involved in the wreck that killed one person and sent another to the hospital, officials said.
An investigation was ongoing.
