A lightning strike in Sunland left more than 700 people without electricity Wednesday night, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power said.

The outage was reported Wednesday around 3 p.m. after lines were knocked down by the lightning, officials said.

Television news footage showed downed lines near Sunland Boulevard and Oro Vista Avenue.

The DPW said on its Twitter account Wednesday night that crews were working as quickly as possible to restore power in the area.

The utility said that typical repair time is 10 hours, but added that “crews often beat those estimates.”

The Los Angeles Police Department said there were no reports of unusual activity in the area left in the dark.
