An investigation is underway into the death of a man shot inside a Westlake apartment early Wednesday.
Police got a call at 2 a.m. about an assault with a deadly weapon in the 1800 block of West 5th Street, LAPD Sgt. Michael Mabie said.
When they arrived to the apartment, they found the man dead from a gunshot wound to the back of his head, he said.
The victim was described as a male in his 20s.
The shooter fled before police arrived, and no description was available.
Detectives were still looking for witnesses and evidence Wednesday morning.
The victim is the seventh person killed in Westlake in the last 12 months, according to The Times Homicide Report.
The last person killed was 32-year-old Roland Wayne Moore. He was fatally stabbed and beaten on Nov. 1, 2014, in the 2900 block of West 6th Street.
