Sunset Blvd. partially reopens after water main break
Sunset Boulevard partially reopened Saturday night after crews repaired a main break that spewed thousands of gallons of water into the streets of West Hollywood on Friday.
Limited lanes reopened on Sunset just east of La Cienega Boulevard around 10:30 p.m., according to a news release from the City of West Hollywood.
Two eastbound lanes and one westbound lane on Sunset are open, but no left turns will be permitted from westbound Sunset onto southbound La Cienega, according to the release.
For the time being, authorites will control traffic in the area while crews from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power remove equipment, according to the release.
The main break happened around 2:30 p.m. on the 8400 block of Sunset at Queens Road.
At its peak, the break was spewing 9,600 gallons of water per minute, said Michelle Vargas, LADWP spokeswoman.
There were no injuries reported associated with the main break.
The pipe with the break was installed in 1916, then cement-lined in 1957, according to the LADWP.
