Man wounded in police shooting in Van Nuys
A man was wounded in a police shooting Sunday morning at or near a motel in Van Nuys, authorities said.
Plainclothes officers conducting a narcotics investigation approached three people in the 13500 block of Sherman Way when at least one officer opened fire, Los Angeles Police Officer Mike Lopez said. He did not know what caused the officer to discharge the weapon, but said a handgun was recovered at the scene.
The injured man was taken to a hospital where he was listed in stable condition. Two other suspects were detained in the area, Lopez said. It’s unclear if, or why, they were arrested.
None of the officers were injured. Lopez said plainclothes officers don’t wear body cameras, nor do they have dashboard cameras.
Authorities with the department’s Force Investigation Division were conducting an investigation.
