Motorist video shows violent encounter between CHP officer, woman
A motorist used his cell phone to capture what appears to be a struggle between a woman and a California Highway Patrol officer on the 10 Freeway in Los Angeles.
The video shows the woman on the side of the freeway when she is approached by the officer and the struggle ensues. The footage was shot by David Diaz, according to a report by KTLA-TV Channel 5.
It is not clear whether words were exchanged between the officer and the woman, but both of them end up on the ground, where the officer straddles the woman and repeatedly punches her, according to the video.
The video shows another man running and apparently trying to help the officer restrain the woman.
KTLA reported that CHP spokeswoman Sgt. Denise Joslin said the agency was aware of the video.
“We are looking into the incident,” Joslin said. “As a matter of policy, every time there is a use of force by our officers, there is a review conducted to determine whether the use of force was appropriate. That will be done in this case, however, since there is an ongoing investigation, it would be premature to comment on this specific video segment without reviewing the entire incident.”
