Another water main breaks in Encino; 100 customers affected
A water main ruptured in Encino early Friday, leaving 100 customers without service and closing part of Haskell Avenue, utility officials said.
The 8-inch cast iron main broke at about 2:45 a.m. at the corner of Haskell and Ventura Boulevard, spewing gallons of water into the street, said Jane Galbraith, a spokeswoman with the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.
It’s unclear how much water was lost or what caused the water main to burst, she added.
Crews shut off the water and closed off a four-block stretch of Haskell for repairs to the roadway. It could take at least a day to fix the main, Galbraith said.
The break comes just days after a 16-inch water main burst in another Encino neighborhood, forcing the evacuation of two homes and leaving a huge hole in the 17900 block of Karen Drive.
At least 100 LADWP customers were also affected by that break.
