Covina woman fatally stabbed; daughter arrested
A woman allegedly stabbed her 61-year-old mother to death early Monday in a Covina assisted living facility, police said.
Covina police received a call about an unresponsive woman in the 800 block of West San Bernardino Road around 5 a.m., said Sgt. Gregg Peterson of the Covina Police Department.
Police found Margarent Machiko Yamaguchi lying on the floor; she had been stabbed several times, Peterson said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police arrested Yamaguchi’s daughter, Athina Sumi Rivera, on suspicion of murder. Rivera had been spending the night in her mother’s room, Peterson said.
Rivera is being held in lieu of $1,015,724 bail. She is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday, Peterson said.
