Brooke Minters, Mark Potts join L.A. Times as video editors
In an expansion of The Times’ storytelling efforts, the newsroom has added two video editors.
Brooke Minters is the Los Angeles Times’ new editor of video. In her role, Minters will coordinate daily with the news and enterprise hub, and across the newsroom, to ensure video offerings are creative, shareable and distinctive.
Minters joins The Times from AJ+, an online channel that revolutionized the way we watch video on social platforms such as YouTube and Facebook. She served as an executive producer on its explainer team there and was one of the original staff members. Previously, she was a producer at Current TV.
Minters attended Sarah Lawrence College in New York and UC Berkeley, where she received her master’s in journalism. She is a Los Angeles native – both of her grandmothers live in Compton, a foodie and a gardener. She loves learning about new cameras, innovating for mobile and pushing buttons (the technical kind).
And joining the staff as a video editor is Mark Potts, the force behind hundreds of L.A. Times videos that have garnered millions of views. Potts is fast, creative and responsible for some of our most viral videos, from #OscarsSoWhite to a dog’s day out at Dodgers Stadium.
A native of Enid, Okla., Potts graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a master’s degree in broadcast journalism. He has created and edited video for DreamWorks, YouTube, Microsoft, Sony and BET.
Potts also has written and directed five feature-length films – including a superhero movie called “Spaghettiman” – that have played festivals around the world.
