A teenage suspect in the shooting of a student at a high school in Louisville, Ky., was arrested Tuesday afternoon without incident, authorities said.
The suspect is 16 and the victim 15, officials said in a statement. The victim is stable, and his injuries are not considered life-threatening. Both the suspect and the victim are male.
“The suspect was taken into custody without incident and a weapon was recovered,” officials said. He faces charges that include assault, carrying a concealed deadly weapon and tampering with evidence. The suspect was confined at the Jefferson County Youth Detention Center.
Tuesday’s shooting at Fern Creek Traditional High School was described as an isolated incident.
News cameras captured the scene as police escorted students, with their hands raised, from the suburban high school to a nearby softball field.
The shooting took place shortly after 1 p.m., and a spokeswoman for the city of Louisville said around 4 p.m. that the suspected gunman had been apprehended.
