Marilyn Chambers reached the public eye first as a model on an Ivory Snow detergent box, but when she starred in a pornographic film, Procter and Gamble decided not to renew her contract. Chambers told a news conference in San Francisco in 1973 that the company was making a mistake. “They should play it up as a good thing. They’d sell more boxes of Ivory Snow,” she said.
