Letters: Give up the scholarship

Re “UCLA’s gold-plated recruit,” Editorial, June 3

I agree completely that anyone who receives a scholarship based on merit absolutely has the right to accept it. But wouldn’t it be refreshing if someone who is extremely wealthy, such as Sean Combs’ son, would say: “Thank you so much for the honor. I really appreciate it and will certainly attend your school and do my best to honor it. But I would like you to spend the funds on a student who is equally worthy but can’t afford the tuition.”
