America’s trauma

Re “There’s no escaping Guantanamo,” Opinion, June 11

The professors are concerned about the depression and post-traumatic stress of released Guantanamo detainees.

What about the traumatic stress our country and our population has had to endure for years following 9/11? The level of anxiety among us increased, and air travel has never been the same.

Do people remember the connection to events of that day and what followed (the shoe-bomber, the bombings in London) and how many plots, airtight or not, have been discovered and foiled?

Our legal system will never be able to properly deal with people of this sort.

Just because they were not brought to full trials is not a proclamation or proof of their innocence.
