Man guilty of attempted murder in Fountain Valley

A Santa Ana man was convicted Friday of the attempted murder of a resident outside a Fountain Valley home.

Antonio Cinco Ortega, 26, was found guilty of one felony count of attempted murder with premeditation and deliberation, one felony count of conspiracy to commit murder and one felony count of mayhem, plus sentencing enhancements for great bodily injury and personal use of a deadly weapon, according to a release from the Orange County district attorney’s office.

He faces a minimum sentence of 25 years to life in state prison and is due to be sentenced Jan. 11 at Central Justice Center in Santa Ana.

Two other defendants — Michael Calvin Shores II, 42, of Fountain Valley and Mary Katheryn Sharpski, 49, of Fountain Valley — are both charged with one felony count of attempted murder, one felony count of conspiracy to commit murder, one felony count of mayhem and a sentencing enhancement for great bodily injury, according to the release. They are scheduled for a trial-setting conference Dec. 14 at Central Justice Center and face a maximum sentence of life in state prison if convicted.

Ortega attacked Sharpski’s husband, Frank, with a machete in an alley outside his home on March 3, 2009. The victim, whose wife was allegedly having an affair with Shores, survived his injuries.

Mary Sharpski and Shores are accused of conspiring with Ortega to plan the assault.
